The General Register Office (GRO) is responsible for the administration of marriage and civil partnership law and the provision of a system for the civil registration of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and adoptions. The office is a branch within the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, which is part of the Department of Finance and Personnel.

The aim of this website is to allow easier access to our services. For information on all services provided by the General Register Office please go to the About Us page where you will find useful information. We are also pleased to offer an online application service for birth, death, marriage and adoption certificates.

You can also find information on current marriage procedures and the marriage notice form can be downloaded by clicking here. Details on approved civil marriage venues, the Gender Recognition Act and the the Civil Partnership Act can also be downloaded from the website. Additional guidance notes relating to Civil Partnerships, approved Civil Partnership registration venues and fees as well as the appropriate notice form are also available.



Disclosure of Death Registration Information

The Registrars General for Northern Ireland, England & Wales and Scotland have introduced a joint data release scheme aimed at stopping fraudsters from using the identities of dead people. Under the Police & Justice Act 2006 and the Local Electoral Administration and Registration Services (Scotland) Act 2006, the Registrars General can disclose death registration information to assist in the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of offences. From 16 January organisations are eligible to apply to receive the information. Further details on the scheme are available at the link below:
